I've never used an epilator before, but I've heard they can be painful. This one is too...don't fool yourself into thinking it won't be. Ultimately it's still pulling out the hair. Ironically enough however, I found that longer hair (1/4 of an inch to 1/2 in) on the bikini area and a few other areas hurt a whole lot less than hair on my legs shaved a few days ago that was much shorter. It was so painful on my legs I couldn't use it for more than a few seconds at a time. In other areas I pulled through.
However, that aside, I do like the product overall and even if the epilator function isn't a first choice over the old Shick Pro Glide, a lot of the other features are nice.

From my perspective, you first need to decide if you want this Philips Epilator or the Philips HP6576/60 Satin Perfect Epilator, White/Purple. The only differences I can tell are that this one is more expensive but also comes with 4 heads for more epilating options. At the time of review, this product is about $150. While it may not seem like much for some (or a lot for others), I think you should base whether or not you should buy this product based on your own tolerance level with pain.
This product is essentially a bunch of tiny tweezers that when pressed down on your skin will grab at one of your hairs and pull the root out. If you have ever tweezed your eyebrows, IT IS THE EXACT SAME FEELING! now imagine that pain and feeling constantly while you are using this product. That it was an epilator feels like.
If you have waxed your entire life, this pain may not be that unbearable, but if you are primarily a shaving type of girl like me, boy does it hurt!
There are 2 speeds:
1 speed - super fast - for areas with lots of hair such as legs
2 speed - moderate - for this sparse areas like your arms
Your hair will be removed and you will see all the roots. The hair that grows back will grow back... Read more
